Naturally regain your sense of taste and smell

Losing your sense of taste and smell can be very frustrating – even if it is just for a day or two. That is why we had a look at different natural remedies that you can try at home to try and regain some of your lost senses.

Garlic: Not only is it delicious in food, but garlic can help clear out a congested nose! Boil 2-3 garlic cloves in water, let it cool until lukewarm and then drink the mixture. For best results drink this twice a day, and your sense of taste and smell should return soon.

Lemon: You can make a refreshing drink of lemon and honey mixed with water, to help fight bacterial and viral infections, ultimately clearing up the nasal passage. Bonus fact, lemons are also very high in Vitamin C.

Mint: Apart from its amazing smell and multiple uses in food, mint can also help restore your lost sense of taste and smell. You can make a delicious mint tea, by boiling some mint leaves in water. Have a cup twice a day, and feel your senses return.

Steam: Nebulising isn’t just for babies! Inhaling steam twice a day, is a very effective way to clear up a clogged nose. An easy way to do this, is by pouring boiling water into a bowl and placing your head just above the bowl, you can even cover your head with a towel for more intense steam. Just remember to come up for fresh air every now and then!

Water: Drinking enough water is key to staying healthy! If your mouth becomes dry, you are most likely to lose some of your sense of taste and smell. Try to drink enough water in order to avoid this from happening.
